Seattle Launches Human Trafficking Prevention Effort Ahead of FIFA World Cup 26™
As Seattle prepares to host FIFA World Cup 2026™, the SeattleFWC26 Local Organizing Committee (LOC) is working to ensure that every visitor, resident, and worker experiences a city that is safe, welcoming, and grounded in dignity. Today, the LOC announced a new partnership with Businesses Ending Slavery & Trafficking (BEST) to provide free human trafficking prevention training and awareness resources to businesses across the region.
The initiative focuses on businesses located near high-traffic event zones—including the stadium district, waterfront, and Fan Zones—where hospitality, customer service, and tourism staff play a critical role in identifying and responding to potential signs of exploitation.
Free Training Available for Businesses
Through this partnership, local businesses can access free BEST Basics training licenses, BEST’s nationally recognized curriculum that equips frontline staff to recognize indicators of trafficking and safely take action. Employees can enroll directly through BEST’s online training center using code FIFA26-SEA. A printable indicator handout is also available to help reinforce key lessons in the workplace.
“We want every organization preparing for the World Cup to feel confident in their ability to help keep our communities safe,” said SeattleFWC26 LOC representative Hedda McLendon. “This training is simple, practical, and gives employees the tools they need to make a real difference.”
In addition to staff training, organizations can download and display BEST’s Not Alone Campaign materials—free awareness posters and resources that communicate support for survivors and help connect individuals to services.
Live Q&A Session on January 21
To support businesses as they prepare for increased visitor activity, the LOC and BEST will host a virtual Q&A session on January 21, 2026, from 2:00–3:00 PM. The session will give participants an opportunity to refresh their knowledge, ask questions, and learn more about the anti-trafficking resources available ahead of the tournament.
Registration is now open.
A Shared Commitment to Safety
The human trafficking prevention initiative is part of a broader effort to ensure Seattle is ready to welcome visitors from around the world during World Cup 26™—not only with world-class hospitality, but with a strong commitment to ethical practices and community well-being.
